Leading lady of Aladin, Jacqueline Fernandes, unveiled

jacquelinefernandes.jpg

It's time for the red carpet to be laid out. Aladin is aiming for a Diwali release and as the film hits the screens, Bollywood would also see the arrival of its 'most exotic' import ever - Jacqueline Fernandes.

All set to regale the audience with a lethal mix of cute persona and some sensuality, Jacqueline is finally being unveiled by the makers of Aladin. "Well, the journey has just begun. Last one year was quite happening but now it is going to be even more exciting times with Aladin being round the corner", she says.

Over the last few months, Jacqueline was closely guarded for all the right reasons. 2008 had seen quite some noise being made around the number of newcomer girls (Asin, Anushka) while Aladin was still quite some distance away.

Says Sujoy Ghosh, the film's director and co-producer, "There was no point for anyone associated with the film to gaga over Jacqueline because of two major reasons. First and foremost she had just stepped into the industry and she wanted to focus on doing a good job in her debut film. Secondly, it was felt that her being 'exposed' to millions out there so soon would have resulted in an over exposure."

The protective director goes on to add, "Since Jacqueline is one of the four major protagonists of the film, other than Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh, she has always been someone special. Now is the time for her to reach out to the world and I am sure Bollywood followers out there would be stunned with what they see of her."

Jacqueline gets nostalgic while remembering the times she spent on the film's sets, "Playing Jasmine was all fun and frolic with just the right ingredients of quintessential Bollywood 'naach gaana' routine and countless romantic and dramatic moments. It couldn't have been a better start."

Considering the fact that 2009 is perking up now after a dry beginning, it only makes Jacqueline's arrival in the industry even more precious.

An import from Sri Lanka who already has a beauty pageant crown in her kitty (she was Miss Sri Lanka 2006), Jacqueline has been academically inclined as well, as apparent from her degree in Media and Communications from Sydney, Australia. Ambitious to the core, she had once stated - "Being independent and accomplished was imperative to me and I always demanded the best of myself. Perfectionism is my strongest asset."

That's something which is pretty much on display, as clear from her choice for her debut film Aladin which is a co-production of Eros and Sujoy's 'Boundscript' and stars none other than Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt along with Riteish Deshmukh.

Says Jacqueline while spreading out that million dollar smile of hers, "The way Riteish's character is fleshed out in the movie, it was all rather cute. However, nothing can beat the excitement of working with Mr. Bachchan and Mr. Dutt. In a way, they were just the antithesis of Riteish. I couldn't have been luckier."

mallikatwitter.jpg

What will you do if someone tells you that the temperature and glamour quotient at our office has gone way up in the office because of your presence? Well, we know that you will surely be floored and must be rolling on the ground!

But, if you are Mallika Sherawat and the compliment came in from none other than Evan Williams, the CEO of Twitter, you will simply flash your smile at the compliment, as you know that your million dollar smile carries more worth than all the stocks in the NASDAQ put together! Mallika arrived at Twitter Head Quarters in San Francisco in a stretch limousine with fans and media channels waiting outside for her. The actress was mobbed for an hour by fans and press, signing autographs and doing interviews.

Evan Williams, Mallika Sherawat

Not just an excited Mallika gushed saying, "I'm honored to be the first Asian star to be invited to Twitter. Jai Ho!" but also posed for pictures outside Twitter's headquarters and then gave some inspirational remarks to Twitter employees during the lunch break. If that wasn't enough, at the request of a Twitter executive, Mallika even showed the employees a few Bollywood dance moves, and then the whole company joined in for the jhatka-matkas, prompting a spontaneous company dance party!

Following the Indian tradition, a coconut was broken in true desi style, by her producers in front of the Twitter office. Even the superhot promo of Mallika's forthcoming film Hissss was also shown to the Twitter employees during their lunch break, which received a tumultuous applause. Twitter staff members informed Mallika's producers that "Since Mallika joined the Twitter service, membership in India has skyrocketed." Can anyone 'dare' to argue on that! Jai Ho, Madame Mallika!

Himesh Reshammiya's Radio complete - The First Look unveiled

himeshradio.jpg

Less than two months after going on floors, shooting of Himesh Reshammiya's Radio is complete. The film was announced in the month of April this year, the principal shooting began in May and in quick time director Isshaan Trivedi of 7 1/2 Phere [Irrfan Khan, Juhi Chawla] fame has wrapped up Radio. The film stars Shenaz Treasurywala and Sonal Sehgal as the leading ladies opposite Himesh.

Says the man on the hot seat, Himesh Reshammiya, who has been keeping a relatively low profile over the last few months. "That's because I have been busy shooting practically every month. In Radio, I have loved every moment playing the character of RJ Vivan Shah. It was a pleasure working with Isshaan Trivedi and producer Ravi Agarwal", he says.

While Studio 18's Ishk Unplugged and Pooja Bhatt's Kajraare are already complete, Himesh has also completed shooting for Radio in quick time. How is he managing so much in such short time span when so many other actors are doing only one or two films a year? Moreover, he is also responsible for composing and singing for each of these films.

"It suits me when I am working more", replies Himesh, "I have always done fantastic work when I have been loaded with work. I think pressure gets the best out of me. Even John Mathew's A Love Issshtory is complete except for the songs which I will do after Bhushan Kumar fixes the release date of the film."

Ishk Unplugged, Kajraare, A Love Issshtory and now Radio. There is wide spread speculation about his next release. Though he is non-committal about his next release, Himesh says, "All I can say is that I am extremely confident of all my films. I am also particularly pleased with the sensibilities with which they have been made."

He has some funny anecdotes to share about Radio though. "Of course, working with the unit of Radio has been a fun experience. However, something that none of us associated with the film will ever forget is that Shenaz spread major viral fever in the unit. At least five members got viral due to her. But then she is a sweet girl and everything is forgotten and forgiven!"

In the film, Shenaz plays the role of Shanaya, a girl who is born to Parsi and Punjabi combination of parents. "And hasn't she done a fabulous job in the film? Same is the case with Sonal Sehgal, who plays my ex-wife in the film. Zakir Hussain and Rajesh Khattar have an important role to play in the film and they both are just fantastic", says Himesh.

"I am sure Radio, which is a romantic comedy, will set new trends. It's truly unconventional yet very commercial", he signs off.

Katrina gets the cake

Katrina Kaif’s birthday last year was more memorable than most – it’s not everybody whose birthday party sees an almost-fistfight between two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, which splits the industry down the middle.

Which is why perhaps it’s not surprising that Kat’s been talking about going to London to spend time with her family this year. And despite her fears to the contrary, she’s made it to the UK and is enjoying her birthday-cum-vacation there.

I’d started talking about my plan to visit my family close to my birthday really early. And then, inevitably, everybody started asking me about it,” she says. “I kept telling myself, ‘Katrina, this is it. You won’t be able to go. Something awful is going to happen and you won’t be able to make your trip’. But I’ve finally been able to and I’m really happy for me,” she adds, over the phone from her London home. She’s currently very busy, letting her hair down with her three elder, three younger sisters, only brother and her mother.

So, what is her birthday plan? “Honestly, nothing means more to me than being able to spend time with my family right now. I haven’t had any time with them and this feels like a luxury. I’m looking forward to a relaxed birthday with everybody here. We’re going to go out and just generally be. The little time I have, I’m going to make the most of it,” she says.

But what about her Bollywood buddies – Salman had thrown a party for her last year and her friends wanted to celebrate her birthday this year in Mumbai too ... ? “I don’t think it matters. Birthdays aren’t that big a deal. I had just these few weeks off and I thought of spending them with my family. It’s a happy coincidence that my birthday falls at this time. I have a packed year otherwise. This is all the vacation I’m going to get,” Kat sighs.

Akshay is a ‘Bruno’ fan

Watches Sacha Baron Cohen film in London

Akshay Kumar apparently loves comedian Sacha Baron Cohen and his brand of humour.

No wonder, he was keen to see his latest film “Bruno”. The movie, which features jokes about Hitler, Jesus and Islam, follows Cohen dressed as a gay Austrian fashion reporter around America. It is Cohen’s second movie after “Borat” and is also intended to amuse and shock.

Akshay is currently shooting in London for Sajid Khan’s film “Housefull” and on Monday evening, after pack-up, the actor finally watched “Bruno” along with his pals from “Housefull”.

"It's the most hilarious film I've seen in recent times. I was rolling with laughter," he reportedly said after watching “Bruno”.

Akshay obviouly loved the film and is recommending it to friends. In fact, he’s waiting to watch it the second time with wife Twinkle, who’ll join him in London shortly.

For those who don't know, Akshay loves watching movies in theatres and that’s why you often see him and his family at either PVR or Fame multiplexes in Mumbai.
